Having straighter teeth not only enhances your appearance, straighter teeth also keeps you away from multiple dental issues. Plaque and tartar can quickly accumulate in the hard-to-reach surfaces of crowded or crooked teeth. Less than optimal oral hygiene puts you at risk of cavities, tooth decay, and gum disease. Sometimes, your misaligned teeth may affect your chewing, biting, and even speech. Worse yet, if the misalignment is severe, you can experience TMJ-related headaches and jaw pain.
Given the many problems of misaligned teeth, Dr. Greg Campbell urges you to straighten your teeth. But wait! You are not ready to wear cumbersome traditional braces with highly conspicuous wires and brackets. Fortunately, that’s not the only way to straighten your teeth. At Greg Campbell DDS, we have clear braces to align your smile with comfort, beauty, and convenience.
Traditional braces use stainless steel wires and brackets and special bands to apply pressure on your teeth to bring them into proper position. Plus, traditional braces are fixed – only a dentist or orthodontist can adjust or remove them.
On the other hand, clear braces like Invisalign or SureSmile use plastic, clear braces to straighten teeth. While the clear aligners are removable, you must wear them at least 20-22 hours a day to complete your treatment in a shorter period. What about when sleeping? Clear aligners are made from comfortable, BPA-free plastic. The aligners are so comfortable that you won’t notice you have them while sleeping!
After Dr. Campbell establishes you are a perfect candidate for clear braces, the next step is to take your bite impressions. Why is this necessary? You may ask. Just like custom-made whitening trays, teeth aligners need to fit over your teeth snugly for comfort and effectiveness.
Speaking of impressions, we know you have reservations about traditional impressions. Thankfully, clear braces have no room for messy, gooey impressions. We use a digital, handheld wand to capture images of your mouth. This method is not only comfortable, but it’s multiple times more precise than traditional impressions.
Next, it’s time to see what your treatment outcome will look like. All this is possible, thanks to the 3D computer imaging technology that can predict the final alignment results, even before the treatment begins!
Manufacturing your braces takes about two weeks. When your braces are ready, you will receive a series of braces to move your teeth as set out in your treatment plan. You will wear each set for about two weeks and then move to the next. This pattern continues until your teeth shift into the desired outcome. Once you attain your alignment goals, we will give you retainers to prevent your teeth from shifting out of place.
Oh, where do we begin? Clear braces have many benefits over traditional braces. Let’s look at some.
